Goats as Guardians and Eco-Friendly Landscapers: In the Dominican Republic, nearly 3,000 goats roam the Forever Living aloe plantations year-round, serving as loyal guardians of this precious plant. Their role goes beyond mere companionship; these furry friends play a crucial role in protecting the aloe plants from unwanted weeds through a process known as “goatscaping.” As they munch on grass and weeds, they provide a natural form of weed control, ensuring that the aloe fields remain pristine and free from harmful intruders. Not only do they help maintain the health of the aloe plants, but they also contribute to the soil’s fertility through their natural fertilizer. A single full-grown goat can eat four to five pounds of forage per day and produce up to 2,200 pounds of manure per year. This translates to an astonishing 6 million pounds of natural fertilizer each year for our beloved aloe vera plants!

"Goatscaping" refers to the practice of using goats to clear vegetation, such as weeds, brush, and overgrowth, from an area of land. Instead of using machinery or chemical herbicides, goats are allowed to graze freely in the designated area, consuming unwanted vegetation and naturally managing the landscape. This eco-friendly approach to land management has gained popularity due to its effectiveness, sustainability, and environmental benefits. Goatscaping is often utilized in urban areas, parks, environmentally sensitive areas, and on private properties where traditional landscaping methods may not be feasible or desirable.

Aloe Vera Cultivation and Harvesting: Many of Forever’s products begin in our aloe fields that span 7,500 acres across Texas and the Dominican Republic. Each year, Forever grows 40 million plants on average, producing Aloe barbadensis Miller, the most nutritionally valuable variety of aloe. The aloe is harvested by hand and kept safe by goats before being sent to Forever’s product manufacturing facilities.

Environmental Impact and Conservation: All the water used to clean and wash Forever’s aloe vera is recycled back into the aloe fields to help conserve water. With an average of 40 million aloe vera plants in our aloe fields, Forever has cleansed the Earth of millions of cubic tons of CO2.
